Embroidery with Pohár Trpělivosti | Workshop | Crested/mâcistan
We would like to invite you to a glass bead embroidery workshop led by Martin Pondělíček, whom you may also know by his artistic name, Pohár Trpělivosti. The workshop will take place on Tuesday, November 3 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Galerie Rudolfinum and is part of the accompanying programme to the exhibition Crested/mâcistan: Tanya Lukin Linklater and Duane Linklater.
Admission with a valid exhibition ticket. We recommend setting aside at least an hour to view the exhibition before the workshop begins – the gallery will be closed once the workshop has finished. Thank you for your understanding.
About the workshop
This two-hour workshop consists of a brief introduction to the history of glass bead production and a display of Pohár’s collection, which includes more than just bead embroidery. This will be followed by an intuitive embroidery session. The aim of the workshop is to harness the meditative nature of embroidery to create your own piece, born from the interplay between mind, body and beads.
About the artist
Pohár Trpělivosti (Martin Pondělíček) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (AVU) and is currently completing his doctoral thesis at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM), where he also works as an assistant in the Textile Studio. In recent years, his work has centred on embroidery and textile objects, though he also engages in drawing, writing and performance. He explores time and its influence on the mutability of the body and identity from the perspectives of mythology, fantasy, posthumanism and science. He perceives time as something physical that can be manipulated, stretched and preserved. He works with both glass beads and mother-of-pearl, and makes sequins from fish scales.
