Zelenka’s Missa Votiva is the most extensive of his roughly twenty Mass settings and at the same time a work shrouded in a veil of mystery. With extraordinary care, Zelenka invested in this fascinating composition — most likely conceived as a thanksgiving for his recovery from a serious illness — the very finest of his mastery and creative daring.
